And that surfboard is a 9' 7" Myers Kanaka 🙌🏽
Don't get me wrong, I love my Andrus 9' 0" longboard, but it's no noserider. It's fun and fast and so responsive you can almost ride it like a shortboard, but it's tricky to hang anything off of. I've been able to get out on the nose with it a few times, but only through cheater 5s or falling off the end immediately after. If I was better at surfing, I'm sure I wouldn't have those issues, but I'm not better. I'm Jaz. Hey, nice to meet you.
The Kanaka is a good deal different from my Andrus board. I've only taken it out twice, but I've dramatically felt the differences. The Kanaka is wider through the nose, has a square tail instead of a rounded pin (which is a soft V), has waaaay less rocker (the curve of the board from the tail to the nose), and though the rails are still 50/50, they are a lot harder (more sharp). It's also much heavier.
As for the actual ride, it's a lot more stable, which means I can walk around quite a bit more (woohoo!). It takes more energy to paddle, and maneuvering on the wave is much less snappy. The rails, surprisingly, don't dig as much as I would've thought, so it's still relatively forgiving when turning from the middle of the board.
I haven't totally clicked with it yet, and the weight makes me surprisingly nervous. I feel like the board knows it too, and is just waiting for a chance to wreak some major havoc. Jared's also ridden it a few times, and he doesn't feel that at all. So either it's all in my head and I just need to get more comfortable with the weight, or I bought a board possessed by an angry spirit that wants to watch me burn and/or drown 🔥 🌊
On a brighter note, Jared likes this board much more than any other we've previously had and might actually get into surfing more (YEEEEE!!). If he ends up using this one a lot, maybe I can get a Lost Not Found board next...
