Jared was really sweet and brought back a bunch of Trader Joe's snacks with him from his recent worktrip to Seattle. Sadly, he also brought back Covid. He didn't realize what it was for a few days though, and by then it was too late for me. So I'm currently in my pjs eating pink chocolate chips and pretzels trying to wrestle my brain's steering wheel away from the Rona.
On a sunnier note, I'm 2 weeks deep in a new job! I work with koalas!! 🐨
I wish I could say that they were real koalas, but unfortunately they're just the company mascot. The people I work with are basically as cool as koalas are cute though. I'm on the development team at Kadince, which is a remote company making software that helps financial institutions (like banks and credit unions) manage their community involvement. The onboarding process has been smooth and really fast paced, which I love because I've been able to jump right in and start getting work done. They work in Rails, which I am very new to but excited to learn. The team has been super welcoming, helpful, and hilarious. The development team hangs out in a Discord voice chat all day and people pipe up now and then with random commentary, sound effects, and updates. I'm really excited to be working with them, and super stoked to see where this next step will lead 💚
Unrelated, Threads (Zuck's Twitter Killer) launched on Thursday July 6th. I joined that same day, totally accidentally, but apparently I was late to the game because almost 50 million people joined before I did. So far it's been an uncanningly wholesome experience. And I've liked bumping into old friends I normally don't interact with on social media. I hope it stays like this, but I'm not placing any bets.
Here's a list of a handful of things I journaled and felt were important for me since starting this new job, because why the heck not haha:
- 😴 Get more sleep
- 💯 Just keep showing up
- 🕰️ Be patient with progress
- 🥅 Goals and systems for goals are powerful
- 🥬 Always take care of the basics (food, body, mind)
- 🧿 Be present and recognize what you can learn from where you currently are
